JUI-F rally threatens attack on US planes

PESHAWAR: The leader of Jamiat-e-Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) on Saturday urged 5,000 supporters at a protest rally to attack any US military plane found on Pakistani soil. "If you see an American military plane on Pakistani soil, destroy it," JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rahman told the demonstrators at the anti-US rally in Peshawar.

The protestors carried banners reading "Death to America, "Osama, We Are With You" and "We Are Ready For Jihad". They also burned effigies of President Bush and Prime Minister Tony Blair. The protesters also attacked US President George Bush, and there were signs that declared, "George Bush is greatest terrorist".

"We declare war on America and Britain," said one speaker from the JUI-F, which has said it has started recruiting fighters to go to Afghanistan if the US attacks the country to punish the Taliban for not giving up Osama.

The JUI chief also denounced Blair's announcement that Britain and Pakistan had agreed on the need for a "broad-based government" to replace the Taliban. "Broad-based government in Afghanistan is a cliche. It has never worked in the past," Fazl said, adding that the plan to bring back exiled Afghan king Mohammad Zahir Shah at the head of a transitional administration was doomed to failure.

ISLAMABAD, Oct 6: President General Pervez Musharraf has got an indefinite extension as Chief of the Army Staff (COAS). It has been learnt that Taliban forces would use Afghanistan's Kandhar and Dost Muhammad Khan Nawar airports to counter the allied forces' possible attack. "We will shoot down allied forces' aircraft if they violate our airspace," said a representative of the Taliban government.
