'Musharraf ka jo yar hai ghaddar hai ghaddar hai', Qazi Husain Ahmad
LAHORE, Feb 13: The MMA on Sunday disowned the 17th Amendment, citing a breach of agreement by the government in this respect. Speaking at the launch of a book by jailed PML-N leader Javed Hashmi here on Sunday, MMA President Qazi Husain Ahmad said as the government had backed out of its promise made with the alliance before passing the amendment, the MMA disowned it, implying that it would be ready to help strike down the same. The Qazi got emotional and chanted the slogan "Musharraf ka jo yar hai ghaddar hai ghaddar hai (he who is friend of Musharraf is indeed a traitor) again and again. The MMA chief allayed fears earlier expressed by some speakers that construction of the Kalabagh dam might disintegrate the country. "We shall amicably find out some formula for water distribution." Alliance's secretary-general and leader of opposition Maulana Fazlur Rahman said those who had bifurcated the country and had been pinpointed in the Hamoodur Rahman Commission report were actual traitors. Criticizing Gen Musharraf for lecturing on terms and condition required for waging Jihad, he said the army ruler had been trained for some other job and not this discussion on religion. He alleged that various measures taken by the dictators had given birth to causes for disintegration of the country. He blamed the establishment for conspiring to pitch provinces against each other. He said the Kalabagh dam was a controversial project and the government must avoid to undertake it.

US, Afghan troops raid border village of Dewgar
PESHAWAR: US and Afghan troops on Sunday raided a border town of Dewgar near Saidgai in North Waziristan tribal agency, and detained two Pakistani tribesmen for their alleged links with al-Qaeda and Taliban. The village is situated on Pak-Afghan border. The two suspects were later taken to neighbouring Khost province of Afghanistan for interrogation. Relatives of the two detainees as well as tribal sources from that remote border village informed The News that about 70 US and Afghan soldiers, backed by
five helicopters gun ships and jet aircraft, cordoned off the border Dewgar village in Saidgai
town and started search operation for al-Qaeda and Taliban fighters. "Mobib and his young nephew who are our Pakistani tribesmen were taken into custody by the US and Afghan troops and were shifted then to Khost in a military helicopter," said a tribesman from Saidgai town but wished not to be mentioned. He said Mobib, 60, was returning home along with his nephew after visiting fellow tribesmen in Afghanistan’s Gurbaz town when held by the troops late on Sunday. "This is not for the first time. We often visit each others living on both sides of the Durand Line (unmarked frontier between Pakistan and Afghanistan)," said tribal elder from Saidgai town. Sources said it took several hours to the US and Afghan troops to conclude futile exercise failing to catch any suspect from the area besides two innocent tribesmen. "The tribes people living on the border towns were alarmed by US helicopters and aircrafts flying over their houses suddenly," said tribal sources. However when contacted, Assistant Political Officer Miranshah, headquarters of North Waziristan, Naeem Anwar denied reports of arrests of the two Pakistani tribesmen. "Totally baseless. No operation has been conducted on our soil. There is also no truth in reports about the arrests of two Pakistani tribesmen," claimed the assistant administrator while talking to The News on telephone from Miranshah.
